New Year. New Goals.

All this January snow has us dreaming of sliding down a mountain, but in just a few months we’ll be back on the water, and sliding into waves.

Over the last few years, we’ve received many requests for surf lessons. And while Coach Nicky and I love playing in the waves, we leave the surf instruction to the pros. Locally, our go-to is Laurel Harrington who leads surf camps to all ages through The Ocean is My Guru.

We asked Laurel if she’d create a beginner surf camp for our paddle community, and she said – YES!

Here are the details:

  • June 25 & 26, 2022

  • 2.5 hour lessons each day, timed with tides

  • Indian River Inlet, DE

  • Prone surf board rental included

  • $200 per person

  • Max students 10

(This is an adult surf camp, but if your teen wants to join you, they are welcome to sign up with you.)

You’ll learn how to read the water (critical skill set for your SUP racing), prone paddle through breakers, position yourself to catch the wave, pop up and ride it to the beach like a boss!

Lessons are at Indian River Inlet – a beginner friendly beach break on smaller days. It’s party wave central, where you’ll see all ages enjoying the stoke of the ocean.

After surfing, we’ll gather at a nearby beach bar to refuel, and if there’s interest, paddle out on the bay for dolphin spotting (bring your paddleboard).

There’s camping at Indian River Marina (on site) and Cape Henlopen State Park.

We expect surf camp to fill quickly! Sign up at HERE. Then select “register today”. Scroll to bottom, select “Annapolis crew” and follow the prompts!

Let’s hear it for fresh goals in 2022!
